Talks in Zim

Finally Morgan Tsvangirai and Robert Mugabe met and have signed an MOU that will ensure talks between their respective parties begin. We all know that this had to happen for the people of Zimbabwe. Zanu Pf cannot lead alone and the MDC hold the upper hand.

There are many players waiting to come in with money and resources for the country but most if not all, want Robert Mugabe to step down as the main condition. This is doable if he is willing to let someone else take over. He should surely be tired and eager to get some rest.

It is difficult to be positive in view of all that has happened and also because we do not trust Zanu PF. But this is better than nothing. We will just keep our fingers crossed and hope it works. we have all lost too much, too fast and need some good news.

Welcome Back Richie

It was with the greatest pleasure that I discovered yesterday that Richie MacCaw, aka The Sexiest Man Alive AND the best rugby player (7 forever), might be back to play against the Wallabies on Saturday. This would surely make for an even greater match than we are already lined up for. I am especially looking forward to the All Blacks' visit to Newlands in August. Could I actually see Richie (and Dan) up close and personal. Okay, maybe not personal but a girl can dream...

It reminds me of an article I read about women and sex. Apparently women hit their sexual peak in their 30s, about the time men start losing their libido. Makes for an interesting discussion. I think I now know why men go for much younger women. They're easier to please, in more ways than one.

I promise a lengthy piece on this topic, with scientific proof and all. Meanwhile feast on the pics, I know I will.

Much love.

Manchester United in the Cape

The weekend saw Manchester United in Cape Town playing against Kaizer Chiefs. The noise, the colour; in fact, the whole atmosphere was wonderful. It just brought home to me what the struggle is and has always been about. It is about equal opportunity. The crowd was dressed equally in red and yellow. You could cheer for who you wanted. The fans were all colours and ages. Whoever wanted to be there and could afford to be there, was. It is that simple.

If the Zimbabwe politicians could only know this. We don't really want to fight, to go through another war, to be refugees, to lose everything we love. We only want to be able to do what makes us happy, attend international events, have internet access, and satellite TV. We want our children to go to good schools, get good educations and have access to the best medical treatment. We don't want to be left behind in the global movement. We want the world and we don't want to have to work harder than everyone else for it.

Perhaps it's time they started thinking of us again.

Back to the game. It was really great seeing Giggs, Scholes, Rooney and the others in person. All praise for the flattening of the world. Long may it continue.

Madiba magic

Well, I'd have to be living in space not to know that it is Nelson Mandela's birthday today. It's been everywhere for the past couple of weeks and has us all contemplating the joy of freedom. At 90, he's easily the most loved politician and leader of the last century and remains an icon and light for many in Africa and the rest of the world.

Exactly what his appeal is beyond bringing SA to independence is hard to say for everyone. It means different things to different people. But it is good to know that there are leaders who are willing to let go of power, to groom and watch others younger than themselves take over; and that it is wonderful to have family and friends who love you around as one grows older.

Happy 90th Madiba, it is wonderful to be a part of your world.

New Times

There is no question that the world is in a state of change. Everyday we are reminded of food shortages, riots, political instability and economic woes. People have lost faith in politics and politicians, business leaders and even the traditional forms of religion.

I have said it before and I will repeat it here. The time of the politician is over. Now the world needs leaders. Men and women of compassion, of courage, of action and of truth.

The time of organised religions that are contradictory and hypocritical; saying one thing and doing another are over. Now is the time for a new faith based on love and the enjoyment of life. Based on looking after each other and looking after one's inner being. Of light and the true love of God.

The time has come for each of us to look deep inside and then act out what we know to be true otherwise our reflection doesn't mean anything.

And now is the time for joy, for looking at the world again and seeing its beauty reflected in everything.

Much love

Happiness All Round

A recent happiness indicator rates Zimbos as the unhappiest country-folk in the world. We share this dubious honour with the Ukraine and Moldova. Hmm. And there we thought we had rated everything there is to rate.

Apparently the happiest place on earth is Malta. It has to do with expecting very little and getting a whole lot more. Don't look at me, I didn't start it. But it brings up this thing of happiness, joy and satisfaction. Did you know that there is an Annual Database of Happiness?

One wonderful thing it says is that it's not the richest people who are the happiest and that after a certain point, having more money has no effect on your happiness. Yes, better believe it. Money only increases your happiness up to a certain point.

Which in my wisdom I've always said in this way: what's the difference between earning 1 million dollars and earning 1,5 million dollars. Yes, seriously... You can buy a little more stuff, maybe a later version of your favourite Merc. But hey, a Merc's a Merc, right?

Needless to say, there really is more to life than money. A whole lot more. The rain, the sun, love, children, laughter, getting drunk, losing weight, gaining weight, crying, sport... So much more to cherish and enjoy.

I've never agreed with the whole 'the poor shall inherit the earth' theory. There's nothing good or glamorous about poverty. And it is nice to have the things you need and want to make your life easier. But to believe that being rich will make you instantly happy is also incorrect. The UK, as a good example, polled in 21st in this year's database.

It would seem that the cliches and the gurus are correct. Happiness really isn't about getting what you want, but wanting what you have AND expectancy reduces joy!!!!!!But when you focus on the other stuff, the relationships, the laughter, the faith. When you 'seek ye first' and truly enjoy your life, all these things shall be added unto you.

Much love.
