Madiba magic

Well, I'd have to be living in space not to know that it is Nelson Mandela's birthday today. It's been everywhere for the past couple of weeks and has us all contemplating the joy of freedom. At 90, he's easily the most loved politician and leader of the last century and remains an icon and light for many in Africa and the rest of the world.

Exactly what his appeal is beyond bringing SA to independence is hard to say for everyone. It means different things to different people. But it is good to know that there are leaders who are willing to let go of power, to groom and watch others younger than themselves take over; and that it is wonderful to have family and friends who love you around as one grows older.

Happy 90th Madiba, it is wonderful to be a part of your world.
