Leadership crisis

Well, today we start the next phase in the struggle for peace and democracy in Zimbabwe. The MDC have pulled out of the run-off election and now we wait to see how the world will react. As usual it's been talk and more talk. What is wrong with the world, and particularly African leaders? Why do they just keep doing nothing? Surely the killing, torture and displacement cannot go on?

If SADC is serious about helping they need to start by at least choosing a new mediator. The current one has failed and needs to make way for someone who the regime in Zimbabwe will respect and listen to. Nothing else will work.

I don't know. I read a quote the other day that says that 'Africa will always disappoint you.' It seems a bit harsh, I know but it's looking like it is true. The continental leaders have done nothing to remove an illegitimate government. The people spoke but were not listened to and all that happens is people meet and talk. Talk, talk, talk. Too much talk.

I am filled with despair and hopelessness. May the next generation of leaders please start showing up.
